Hundreds of people got their morning off on the right foot by raising thousands of dollars to promote the health of newborn babies.
Thousands of community members showed up for the annual March for Babies event at the Grand Traverse Civic Center Saturday morning, ready to walk 5 miles for a great cause.
"It keeps the community involved with the March of Dimes knowing what we're doing," says event coordinator, Dan Montie. "It's a resource for volunteers. It raises awareness for newborns and it's really something that kind of brings everybody together as a community event."
The event raises thousands of dollars for the March of Dimes, an organization that works to save premature and sick babies. All of the money collected will go towards research to find out why premature birth happens and what can be done to prevent it.
Organizers say they hope to raise at least $50-thousand for March of Dimes.
