With all of the sunshine and warm weather, you may not be thinking about Christmas this time of year. However, the Salvation Army is - and they need Northern Michigan's help.
The Gaylord Salvation Army is holding it's "Christmas in July" Red Kettle Campaign for the second year in a row.
The money raised is used to support programs, services, and to help provide the basic necessities for those in need in Otsego County.
Last year "Christmas in July" raised over $2800 and helped over 150 families in Otsego County with paying bills, staying in their homes, getting to doctors appointments, etc. Organizers say the demand for help this year is at least as high as in 2012, but that their goal is to get as much as what people want to contribute to their cause.
"Certainly people are used to seeing the red kettles during the wintertime, unfortunately the need in Otsego County doesn't go away when the warm weather approaches," said Brian Jergenson, the Gaylord Salvation Army Business Manager. "We need as much help as we can get and this is a good opportunity to get out and have people contribute to help the Salvation Army ."
The campaign takes place in Gaylord July 26th and 27th, at Walmart, Family Fare (formerly Glen's Market), and Big Lots from noon until 6pm.
The Salvation Army still needs bell ringers for this year. If you're interested in ringing, contact the Gaylord Service Center at 989-731-5959. If you'd like to make a monetary donation, you can send your financial gift to: The Salvation Army, PO Box 4036, Gaylord, MI 49734.
