A Leelanau County middle school student has spelled her way to Washington D.C. for the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
Jessie Williams, an 8th grader at the Pathfinder School in Leelanau County, took home the Grand Traverse Regional Spelling Bee Crown Sunday evening.
Williams won the title spelling the word "bellicose," meaning "demonstrating aggression and willingness to fight."
She will now participate in the national competition in Washington D.C. during the week of May 25.
