Manistee Police asking for help in identifying a suspicious man and vehicle

Officials are asking for your help in identifying a suspicious white male and vehicle.

On Thursday, September 5th, at about 3:30pm a fifteen year old girl was walking home from school. A white male was in a van parked at the corner of 8th Street and Tamarack Street in Manistee. The male asked the student if she wanted to buy some golf clubs, adding that they were cheap and located just down the street. He offered her a ride in his van to go see the clubs. After about two or three minutes, she became suspicious and left the area.

The girl described the man as: a white male, 30ish-40 years old, clean shaven, a slightly rounded face, and wearing a brown cowboy hat pulled closely down to his face.

She described the van he was driving as: a full size conversion van that looks like a work truck and light green (something in the color range of the Serv-Pro colors). There aren't any markings on the van that would indicate any business affiliation. There was also an orange air freshener hanging from the rearview mirror. She also noted that the exhaust was a little loud when it pulled away.

The vehicle pulled away heading east on 8th Street.

Police are asking for help in identifying the vehicle and the driver.

They are canvassing the neighborhood and looking at sex offender registrations across multiple counties.

If you have any information, you can call the Manistee County Tip Line at 231-723-6241 or e-mail information to Chief Bachman at dbachman@manisteemi.gov.
