Michael Moore leads celebration of theater upgrade
Filmmaker Michael Moore and the Consumers Energy Foundation are giving an update Wednesday on efforts to upgrade the historic State Theatre in Traverse City.
Consumers' philanthropic arm has pledged $125,000 toward restoration of the exterior of the downtown movie house. Work on the facade has been completed. A community celebration is scheduled for Oct. 24.
A ceremonial check presentation will take place Wednesday shortly after 6 p.m., followed by a showing of the film "Up".
Consumers Energy Foundation President David Mengebier will present the check. Moore will join from a distance through Skype. He is a founder of the Traverse City Film Festival helped spearhead the State Theatre restoration project.
