A ground breaking ceremony Monday will officially kick-off a new affordable housing project in Traverse City.

      Habitat for Humanity

      and

      HomeStretch Non-Profit Housing Corporation

are combining efforts to create the homes in the new

      Depot Neighborhood

      .

The Depot Neighborhood is located on the corner of Eighth Street and Woodmere Avenue, next to the former train depot.

HomeStretch will be building eleven homes on the property and Habitat for Humanity will be building an additional ten homes.

The Depot Neighborhood will be built as a sustainable, net-zero housing community. The energy-efficient standards mean a savings of up to $1500 for Habitat Homeowners. The homes will be sold to qualified

      Habitat-GTR

      Families.

The ground breaking ceremony will take place Monday starting at 5:30pm at the Depot property.
