Great news for those who enjoy using the Traverse Area Recreation and Transportation (TART) Trails to get around northern Michigan - a whole new scenic pathway has just opened.
The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) completed construction of the paved path along M-22 and M-109 in the Sleeping Bear Lakeshore.
The pathway goes from the Dune Climb at Sleeping Bear to the village of Empire.
This more than doubles the length of the Sleeping Bear Heritage Trail - taking it to nine and a half miles.
Bata-bus Bike-and-Ride service is also expanding to accommodate the new trail.
