Otsego County has rallied together to help Otsego County's Toys for Tots program get back on track.
A fire last Friday destroyed tens of thousands of dollars of toys, but that did not put a damper on the holiday spirit in Gaylord.
When Kevin Drummond, the manager of the Gaylord Walmart, heard about the fire, he immediately started making calls to gather donations.
"I just couldn't fathom having a child wake up and not be able to have that opportunity," Drummond said.
Drummond says he was able to raise over $11,000 dollars in cash, clothes, and toys for the children of the community.
"It's such a tragic loss and we need to be there for them," Drummond said.
Many other businesses have also risen to the occasion. Some medical officers around town have offered free services in exchange for a toy, and restaurants like Spicy Bob's are offering a free meal to encourage more people to donate.
Toys for Tots tells 7&4 News that they have also received many checks from local donors, including a $10,000 check from an anonymous person.
