Police say Wal-Mart thief kept coming back for more
A 24-year-old Alpena man is behind bars after being arrested for Felony Retail Fraud of a Wal-Mart. Around 2:30 AM July 2, troopers from the Alpena Post responded to a call that a suspect was caught attempting to steal over $1,000 in merchandise including a big screen TV and a computer.
When Wal-Mart employees contacted the suspect he ran into the parking lot and into a parked vehicle. Troopers quickly found the suspect based on a description from employees. The suspect vehicle was stopped in a Walgreens parking lot after traveling east bound on M32 in an attempt to elude troopers.
An investigation reveals the three occupants of the vehicle had actually made four trips to Wal-Mart that day to steal items. Troopers were able to recover several thousand dollars of stolen Wal-Mart merchandise including a 55 inch TV, 2 additional flat panel TVs, two desktop computers, blue ray DVD players, DVD's, and more.
The 24 year old Alpena man was arrested for Felony Retail Fraud and lodged at the Alpena County Jail. A 26 year old female and 19 year old man, both from Alpena were released pending further investigation and a formal review of the incident by the Alpena County Prosecutor.
