The Red Cross of Northwest Michigan, Cherry Capital Airport and the American Legion Post #35 have teamed up to honor the men and women that have served our country.
This year they are honoring 88-year-old Richard Rizzio of Traverse City.
Rizzio is a veteran of the Battle of the Bulge.
He served with Patton's army and was honored with a silver star and purple heart during his time of service.
Rizzio said he was just doing what he was called to do.
"A lot of the guys who really deserve the recognition are gone. they didn't make it," said Rizzio. "So, I guess we represent them and it just seemed like I did what I was supposed to do."
Rizzio will be honored at the 2nd annual "Honoring Our Veterans" golf outing.
The outing will be Sunday, Sept. 8, 2013 from 8:00am to 2:30pm at the Elmbrook Golf Club in Traverse City.
Proceeds will go to the American Red Cross.
