Red Cross reaching out to Northern Michigan for typhoon relief efforts
The recent disaster in the Philippines has left millions without clothes, shelter, food, and water. To help with relief efforts, the Northwest Michigan chapter of the Red Cross is collecting donations.
The number of people in need right now due to Typhoon Haiyan is close to the entire population of Michigan.
The Northwest Michigan Red Cross has already sent four emergency aid workers - and plan to send five more.
Members of our chapter say that monetary donations are the best way to give.
"As one of the most profitable countries in the world, we're able to help countries like the Philippines during their time of need," said Kevin Bavers, the Executive Director of the Red Cross of Northwest Michigan. "And it's so important that we reach out and make a difference. The Red Cross is in 187 countries and if each country does just a little bit to help, we'll be able to make a huge difference."
If you would like to contribute to the relief fund, you can text "typhoon" to Red Cross, call 1-800-RED-CROSS, or contact your local Red Cross chapter in Northern Michigan.
