Residents worry FEMA flood zone could leave them high and dry

A battle is raging between several Crawford County residents and the Federal Emergency Management Agency after property owners found out they may be forced into a new flood zone designation.

Flood plain maps became effective on April 17th, and now residents near the Ausable and Manistee Rivers are receiving letters from their mortgage companies letting them know they have 45 days to get flood insurance.

Government officials in Crawford County say the area FEMA added to their flood zone has never actually flooded, yet they're being lumped into the same flood category as New Orleans.
