Wed, 21 May 2014 11:28:22 GMT —
The Ride of Silence is a national event happening tonight at 7 PM. Cyclists from all over the country are pedaling through their towns to raise awareness for bicycle safety. There is a Ride taking place tonight in Traverse City as well as several other northern Michigan towns.
This event is to honor and remember those who have been injured or killed on a bicycle. Cherry Capital Cycling Club Education Director Mike Dettmers says that this year is especially significant because 3 people have been killed in the past 3 years in our area while riding their bike.
To be a part of the event, bring your bike and meet at the Filling Station in Traverse City at 6:30. A few words in honor of those who are being remembered will be spoken and then they will ride in groups of 15 through the streets of Traverse City. The ride will be about 8 miles and is expected to take about an hour.
