Seven grants totaling $241,000 were given to nonprofits and local units of government in the Rotary Charities spring grant round.
"All these grants represent an investment in our region and our quality of life," said President Al Bonney. "In this fiscal year alone, we have made almost $1.4 million in grants to our five-county region."
The foundation was formed after reserves of oil and natural gas were found on property owned by the Traverse City Rotary Club in 1976. The grant money comes from interest income generated from oil and gas royalties. Since it's inception, Rotary Charities have granted more than $55 million to organizations and non-profits in Grand Traverse, Leelanau, Benzie, Kalkaska and Antrim Counties.
This round of grants include:
-Benzie Transportation Authority: $16,000
-Conflict Resolution Services: $65,000
-Green Lake Township: $15,000
-Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation - Herman Park: $15,000
-Grand Traverse Regional Land Conservancy: $50,000
-Involved Citizens Enterprise: $65,000
-Samels Family Heritage: $15,000
