Update 8pm: Authorities say that the search for a Mason County snowmobiler who drove off a 100-foot cliff is over and that his body has been found.
A Ludington man is still missing after authorities say he went over an embankment and fell about 100 feet into the Pere Marquette River.
Authorities identify the driver of the snowmobile as 35-year-old William Green.
Mason County deputies were dispatched around 7:20 PM Sunday along the south corner of the Pere Marquette River near Conrad Road and Gordon Road in Amber Township. There were reports of a snowmobile that had crashed through the ice, fell about 100 feet, and was "nose down" in the river. The snowmobile was found around 9 PM but there was no sign of the driver and authorities believe he went with the snowmobile through the ice.
Mason County Sheriff Kim Cole says divers were not immediately sent into the river because of dangerous river conditions. Authorities say neither speed nor alcohol is believed to be a factor and the situation remains under investigation.
