Cass Street got a green makeover this morning.
A dozen students joined with ReLeaf Michigan Friday morning planting 14 trees along Cass between 8th and 13th Streets.
Itâ??s part of a bigger project headed up by the American Bar Association looking to plant one million trees nationwide by 2014.
Michiganâ??s Bar Association helped fund ReLeafâ??s planting plans.
Students from TBA Career Tech Center helped do the dirty work. An organizer said the teens will be able to see the fruits of their labor for years to come.
â??The professions of forestry, arboriculture, community forestry, tree services are in great need of people,â?? said Melinda Jones, executive director of ReLeaf Michigan Inc. â??This is an excellent opportunity for them to take what theyâ??ve learned at school and actually put it to use on something productive. Theyâ??re going to be able to drive by and say, â??Hey, I planted that.â??â??
ReLeaf Michigan has worked with over 300 communities state-wide over the past 25 years, planting more than 25-thousand trees on public land.
