The Cherry Bowl Drive-In is a winner for Honda's Project Drive-In campaign, which will pay for the conversion to a digital system. The announcement of the win came Thursday.
Cherry Bowl Drive-In is one of 122 drive-ins to participate in Hondaâ??s Project Drive-In campaign. The thirty day national effort, which began on August 9, was created to save as many of Americaâ??s remaining drive-ins as possible through increased awareness, community involvement and fundraising.
There are less than 400 drive-in theaters left in America and the end of 35mm film distribution by the end of this year could shut down many more of these theaters that cannot afford the costly conversion to digital projectors.
In celebration of the Project Drive-In award, the Cherry Bowl Drive-In is inviting the local community to a special celebration Thursday at 6 p.m., in addition, following the September 21 Los Angeles premiere of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2, all drive-ins receiving digital projectors, care of Hondaâ??s Project Drive-In, will have the opportunity to screen the highly-anticipated film before its wide release date.
