Time for the biggest garage sale of the season
The Father Fred Foundation is setting up for it's twenty-second Spring garage sale.
If you're taking care of that spring cleaning and realize you're missing something special - Father Fred has the answer. Set-up takes almost a week for their semi-annual garage sale.
Thousands of items will be for sale this Saturday - including furniture, antiques, jewelry, toys, games, puzzles, sporting goods, and all season and sizes of clothing.
Organizers say the garage sale is vital to the foundation's financial assistance program - which helps families in crisis. "No matter how good the weather, how much you need to get out and do your yard, to rake or plant flowers - I know there's a piece of your heart that you want to come over here and let us be a conduit for you to give back to the community. Because it's through your donations that we can help so many people in need," stated Rosemary Hagan, the executive director at Father Fred.
New this year is an online auction. Called Father Fred's Attic, the auction features special items that have been pulled out of the regular sale.
Hagan said the garage sales bring in about $55,000 a year for Father Fred and are critical to the success of the charity.
The garage sale fundraiser will take place Saturday at the Father Fred Charity office on Hastings Street in Traverse City from 9am-4pm. Organizers say hundreds show up to shop and in the morning a line forms to get in - so they recommend arriving early.
