Traverse City Roller Derby teams up with Michigan Blood and TCAPS to raise funds for a junior team

Wednesday you have the chance to save lives and raise money for local elementary school kids.

The Traverse City Roller Derby (TCRD) team is joining forces with Michigan Blood to support the Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) Learning, Education, and Athletic Program (LEAP).

Each blood donation saves multiple lives and earns ten dollars towards funding the first junior roller derby team in Traverse City.

Money will go towards new equipment so kids can try out the sport and see if they'd like to join the team.

"You can save several lives and maybe help some kids get into a new sport that they didn't know they were going to love," said Katy Scarbrough of the TCRD. "So it's good news all around. It's totally worth the trouble of coming out here."

The blood drive's still going on at the Jimmy Johns campus plaza until 7:30pm Wednesday - or you can stop by the Michigan Blood Center within the next few days and mention the roller derby team.
