Upper Peninsula man to be offered contract to become new City Manager
Traverse City Commissioners have selected a candidate to become the new City Manager and they are currently working on a contract to offer him.
City officials gathered at the Governmental Center Saturday morning for a special meeting to interview the final six candidates for City Manager. After several hours of interviews, Mayor Michael Estes called for a vote and the commission voted to select Jered Ottenwess, who is currently the City Manager of Ishpeming in the Upper Peninsula.
Before anything is final, the city will run an extensive background check on Ottenwess and then meet with him to go over the terms of the contract. They will discuss conditions like salary and benefits with him before moving forward.
Mayor Estes hopes to meet with Ottenwess to go over the contract sometime this week. If Ottenwess accepts the contract he would take over at the end of June when the current City Manager Ben Bifoss retires.
