Saint Joseph in Manistee honored local veterans and a fallen trooper Sunday by hosting the seventh annual Veterans dinner.
Hundreds attended throughout the day at the Parish Center, including military veterans and state police.
Many local organizations came out to lend a helping hand, including the Boy Scouts and Knights of Columbus.
Organizers say this year's dinner was special because it was dedicated to army veteran and Michigan State Police Trooper Paul Butterfield. The trooper was killed in the line of duty in September.
â??We recognize that he was an Army vet, as well as a state trooper, and it was tragic the way he died. And we just wanted the community to remember him; that we won't forget what he did and served, and what he did for the community,â?? said John Suyak, Veterans dinner chairman.
Proceeds from the dinner will be going toward a veteran's organization of Butterfield's fiancéâ??s choice. The dinner included a fifty-fifty drawing, turkey raffles and live music.
