Wal-Mart partners with school district to 'stuff the bus' with school supplies for kids in need

The first day of classes are right around the corner and Traverse City Area Public Schools (TCAPS) are helping kids go back to school with essential items.

Traverse City Area Public Schools is helping kids go back to school with essential items this year.

TCAPS has partnered with Wal-Mart to 'stuff the bus' in the Wal-Mart parking lot with binders, pencils, crayons, backpacks and any other school items.

TCAPS administrators realize that many students in the school system are on free or reduced lunch and hope to gain support from the community to help each other out.

Like any other job, where having the tools is necessary to perform well, TCAPS administrators also know that kids need supplies for school.

"It's absolutely essential that our students have all those back to school supplies that they need," Christine Guitar, TCAPS Marketing and Communications Director, said. "Paper, pencils, backpacks, it's a key to their success. This is one really nice way that our community helps our students out and gets them on the right foot at the beginning of the school year."

TCAPS are accepting donations at the Wal-Mart on 2640 Crossing Circle in Traverse City, now through August 22nd.
