A power company has dropped its plans to build a coal-fired generating plant in Presque Isle County, ending years of conflict with environmentalists over the project.
Cadillac-based Wolverine Power Supply Cooperative said Tuesday that it was ending work on the proposed plant in Rogers City.
Wolverine first proposed the plant in 2006 and received state Department of Environmental Quality approval in 2011. Environmentalists have been fighting the plan.
Clean Water Action organizer Eric Keller says his group is "thrilled that Wolverine has made the decision not to build this coal plant in Michigan."
