Charlevoix County could be one step closer to getting funding for a new facility on Beaver Island.
The county road commission filed an application for a TIGER grant, which is a federally funded grant program for transportation projects. The commission applied for $720,000 to help with building costs.
The commission's grant has made it to the final round of qualifying applications, meaning they are in the top 75 out of 1,000 applications.
The $1.2 million project was initially proposed to provide a central hub for services on the island. The proposed project would house a station for the road commission, sheriff's department, and other county services.
