City must absorb over $20k in construction costs for Charlevoix fireplace

Fri, 07 Jun 2013 18:24:47 GMT — The controversial Charlevoix fireplace project may be over, but now the city is has to make up for thousands of dollars lost on the structure. Since the project was cancelled at a council meeting in late May, the city now has to absorb $20,871 in construction costs.Charlevoix City Manager Rob Straebel tells 7&4 News the city is trying to make up for the loss with private donations. So far they have raised $5,170.The initial project was supposed to be funded through a private anonymous donor but the money never made it's way to the city because the project was never completed.
