Election day may mean recall of three Charlevoix City Council members
Today marks election day in many communities across northern Michigan and throughout the state.
One of the local races generating a lot of interest is the recall election of three Charlevoix City Council Members.
This all started back in August when city council members met to discuss the controversial downtown fireplace at a special meeting.
Petitioners argue that the gathering violated the Open Meetings Act.
Now, city council members Jill Picha, Bryan Vollmer and Dennis Kusina have lost their seats on the city council. Gabe Campbell, Shirley Gibson and Jeffrey Porter will be filling the seats. They will, however, be forced to go through re-election in November as part of the regular election.
The polls are open until 8 p.m. We'll have all of the election results as soon as they are submitted by the counties at www.upnorthlive.com/election.
