Former Township Supervisor arrested for stealing scrap metal from Wilmot Township

A Wolverine man was arrested after deputies say he stole scrap metal from the transfer station in Wilmot Township.

A former Township supervisor was arrested after deputies say he stole scrap metal from the transfer station in Wilmot Township.

Cheboygan County Sheriff Dale Clarmont said his department got a request from a Wilmot Township board member to investigate scrap metal being stolen from the township transfer station.

The investigation led to the arrest of Michael Wilcome, 61, on a misdemeanor charge of larceny. The Sheriff's Office said Wilcome was the Township Supervisor and the transfer station supervisor at the time of the crimes.

The transfer station, located on Peet Road, is a collection site for township trash including a bin for scrap metal. Discarded metal is then transported to a scrap yard, weighed, and the money is paid to the township. Sheriff Clarmont said the investigation showed the township had not received any funds for scrap metal since September of 2012.

Wilcome was arraigned on Wednesday in the 89th District Court.
