Yazy Arbelo smacked a two-run home run in the first inning and added an RBI single later in the game to lead the Traverse City Beach Bums past the Evansville Otters 3-1 on Thursday night at Wuerfel Park.
Arbelo's first-inning blast was a missile just to the left of dead-center field, scoring Rob Benedict, who had walked earlier in the frame to give TC a 2-0 lead. The homer was Arbelo's team-leading seventh of the season.
With the score still 2-0 in the fifth, Arbelo poked a single through the left side, plating Jeff DeBlieux to make it 3-0. Overall, Arbelo was 2-for-3 with a run scored and three RBI, upping his team-best total to 19.
The support was more than enough for Rusty Shellhorn, who dazzled in his third start of the year. Shellhorn (2-0) tossed 5.1 scoreless frames, scattering seven hits while racking up three strikeouts. In three starts this year, Shellhorn has given up just two earned runs in 17.1 innings.
