George Barber and Yazy Arbelo blasted home runs and Alex Gillingham limited the Lake Erie Crushers to just one run in a strong start as the Traverse City Beach Bums knocked off the Crushers 4-1 on Wednesday afternoon at All Pro Freight Stadium.
The Beach Bums were still in search of their first hit when Barber stepped to the dish against Connor Whalen in the fifth, but Barber unloaded on a first pitch fastball for his first homer in a Traverse City uniform. The next inning, Jovan Rosa walked with two outs and Arbelo pounced on the first pitch for a two-run shot to right-center, making it 3-0 in favor of Traverse City.
Gillingham gave up just the lone tally on five hits in 5.1 innings with three strikeouts and three walks.
The win evened the series between the two squads, who will now face off in a rubber game on Thursday night at 7:05.
