Bums shutout Crushers, take 2-0 series lead

The Beach Bums shutout the Lake Erie Crushers for the second time in the playoffs. But more importantly, the Beach Bums used a team effort to beat the Crushers 5-0 for a 2-1 lead in the Frontier League Divisional Series.

The Beach Bums took the advantage early as Carlo Testa hit a one-out single and stole second to put himself in scoring position. Jose Vargas doubled home Testa for a 1-0 Beach Bums lead. Traverse City doubled the lead in the second when the Beach Bums loaded the bases. Ryan Still hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate Sean Gusrang making it 2-0 TC.

Mike Devine (1-0) never allowed a base runner past first base as he shutout the Crushers through six innings on four hits and six strikeouts.

The Beach Bums have a chance to clinch the Frontier League Divisional Series with a win Wednesday against the Crushers.
