Detroit right-hander Anibal Sanchez isn't sure when he might return from a right pectoral strain after a setback this week left him dealing with more pain.
Sanchez said he was feeling better Tuesday, a day after his latest problem. Tigers manager Brad Ausmus says Sanchez will not be able to return for Saturday's doubleheader against the Chicago White Sox.
Detroit has struggled this month amid injuries to Sanchez and Justin Verlander. Spot starters Robbie Ray and Buck Farmer failed to get out of the second inning in their most recent outings.
Sanchez is 8-5 with a 3.46 ERA, but he hasn't pitched since Aug. 8.
Verlander is now back in the rotation, but the Tigers will still have to start left-hander Kyle Lobstein on Thursday against the New York Yankees, and another spot starter is likely Saturday.
