Lions may take a cornerback at No. 10 in NFL draft

Detroit Lions general manager Martin Mayhew says the team will stick to drafting for talent rather than need in the NFL draft.

Mayhew met with reporters Monday, three days before the draft in which Detroit is slated to make the No. 10 pick overall.

The Lions may draft a cornerback - perhaps Justin Gilbert or Darqueze Dennard - if they don't trade up to select wide receiver Sammy Watkins or defensive end Jadeveon Clowney.

Detroit does not seem to have a lot of glaring voids after signing receiver Golden Tate and safety James Ihedigbo this offseason. The floundering franchise fired coach Jim Schwartz after his fifth season with the Lions and then gave Jim Caldwell a second shot to lead an NFL team.
