The Traverse City Beach Bums pushed across a season-high seven runs in the first inning on Tuesday night and made it stand up, edging the Southern Illinois Miners 8-7 at Wuerfel Park.
The seven-run outburst actually came after the Miners had scored three runs in the top of the first inning against Tanner Tripp. Greg Harisis led off with a single and Scott Woodward walked before Jose Vargas smacked an RBI single to left field for the first run. After a groundout, Jovan Rosa hit a two-run double off the top of the wall in left-center to knot the game at three.
A walk and an error loaded the bases for Josh Miller, who poked a two-run single to right to give TC a 5-3 lead. Jeff DeBlieux continued the rally with an RBI single to left field before Harisis connected for an RBI hit, making it 7-3. A double play capped the seven-run frame.
