8-Player main event, playoff pushers highlight Week 8 football

7-0 Central Lake will host their biggest game in many years under the lights on Friday against 7-0 Onekama.

Selection Sunday will be here before we know it.

One week from this Sunday, October 22nd, we will get all the MHSAA playoff pairings and brackets for the 11-player and 8-player football tournaments that will run through November and that's whats motivating tons of area teams as they head into Week 8 schedules Friday night.

In 8-player standings, Central Lake and Onekama are the lone remaining unbeatens in the first year of the Midwest Central Michigan Conference. We will have a clear-cut winner between the Trojans and Portagers when they face off on Friday.

Boyne City (7-0) and Elk Rapids (6-1) are both in the playoffs but would love to add to their resume's heading into their game against each other this week.

Gaylord St. Mary (7-0) can lock up the NMFL Legacy championship with a win at Harbor Springs (4-3) this week but its the Rams who will be playing for the league title and a potential playoff spot down the line if they can win at home.

We talk all three big match-ups with Traverse City Record Eagle sports writer James Cook in our latest Jimmy John's Sports Corner.
