Buckley makes historic run to first state finals in boys basketball
EAST LANSING -- History was made Saturday for the Buckley boys basketball program.
The undefeated Bears took part in their first state championship game in school history. Unfortunately for them, a hot start from two-time defending Class D champ Powers North Central helped propel the Jets to a third straight crown in the 78-69 win at the Breslin Center.
The Jets put up 38 points in the first quarter, an MHSAA Finals record. The win also gives them 83 straight, longest active winning streak in the country.
Buckley showed toughness throughout. The Bears crawled back to within three points late in the fourth quarter before North Central ended up winning by nine.
Denver Cade led the Bears with 25 points. Austin Harris contributed 22. Both Cade, Harris and the rest of the Bears starting five will be back next season.
