Ludington shows toughness in boys basketball state finals appearance

EAST LANSING, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- Its been a season for the record books over in Ludington as the Oriole boys basketball team played in its first state finals in well over 50 years on Saturday at the Breslin Center.

The O's showed a lot of heart and determination after winning Friday night's semifinal at the buzzer but their Class B finals opponent New Haven showed just a little bit more in the 45-36 win for the championship.

Senior Calvin Hackert led Ludington in scoring with 16 points as the O's struggled to put baskets in after a semifinal win that their fans will be talking about for a lifetime. Josh Laman hit a miracle three at the buzzer to put them in the finals.

The Orioles finish the season 25-3. They advanced the farthest in the Class B tournament out of all northern Michigan teams since Cheboygan played in the title game back in 1999.
