Northmen, Ciccoretti, McCardel and Cooper win ski titles

One area team and three individuals took home downhill ski state championships on Monday.

Northern Michigan is known for its wide variety of ski hills. That makes it no surprise that Schuss Mountain in Bellaire and Nubs Nob in Harbor Springs were chosen as host sites for the Division 1 and Division 2 Downhill Ski State Championships on Monday.

The Petoskey Northmen took home a team championship in the Division 2 boys race while Cadillac finished second. The Vikings were led on the day by Keenan Cooper who was individual champion in both the Slalom and Giant Slalom events. On the girls side, Petoskey's Mia Ciccoretti finished first overall in the Slalom competition while Elk Rapids-TC St. Francis' Carlee McCardel finished first overall in the Giant Slalom event.

In the Division 1 race, Traverse City Central finished second place in both the boys and girls races. TC West finished second-runner up in the girls race. You can click on the video link to see highlights and pictures from both Trojan teams from the races at Schuss Mountain.ã??
