U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds set to perform opening weekend of 2019 Cherry Fest

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The skies of Traverse City will be filled with the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds during the 2019 National Cherry Festival.

The festival announced Thursday that the Thunderbirds will be taking to the skies during the opening weekend of the festival on June 29 and 30.

The Thunderbirds squadron is an Air Combat Command unit composed of eight pilots, four support officers, four civilians and more than 100 enlisted personnel performing in almost 30 job specialties.

During the show, the pilots will perform about 40 maneuvers and it will last about 75 minutes.

The Festival Airshows are free both days.

A full practice show will be held Friday, June 28 in the heart of Traverse City.

The National Cherry Festival is scheduled for June 30 through July 6.
