LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Here on UpNorth Family, we like to give your kids ideas of different career fields to get into.

Daniel Goodchild, with Northwestern Michigan College's construction and technology department, spoke with us today about the upcoming "Building Tomorrow" event.

The event is being held Thursday, October 11 through Saturday, October 13 at the Aero Park Lab Building on NMC's logo.

On Thursday and Friday, students from area high schools will be able to go through five featured construction areas for hands-on experiences.

The areas are: carpentry, welding, heavy equipment, HVAC and electrical.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday and Friday for 9 through 11 grades.

There will be a community open house on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Anyone is welcome to come out and try the different areas, talk to contractors, educators, suppliers and get information about the availability of jobs, training, etc.
