Lisa Maxbauer Price, a Traverse City mother and food writer, shares a delicious recipe for Hasselback Potatoes (Build Your Own Baked Potato Bar).
Potatoes of your choice (for example, 4 large sweet potatoes and 4 large Idaho potatoes)
2 Tablespoons melted butter or olive oil
Optional toppings of your choice (ex: For savory white potatoes: sour cream, chives, cheddar, bacon crumbles. For sweet potatoes: marshmallows, maple syrup, brown sugar.)
1. Heat oven to 450 degrees.
2. Slice 1/8-inch slits into the top of the potatoes, leaving the bottom 1/4 of the potato intact. (It should resemble an open book, with flexible pages on the top and a secure spine on the bottom.)
3. In a foil-lined baking dish, place potatoes. Drizzle butter or olive oil, salt and spices between the cut potato slices. Bake for 55 minutes or until tender.
4. Remove from the oven and dress potatoes with your favorite toppings.
