114 year old school comes crashing down to make room for upgrades

Demolition began Monday night on the 114 year-old Immaculate Conception School in Traverse City.

Demolition at the Immaculate Conception School in Traverse City began Monday evening with a growing crowd of on lookers watching as the building which was erected in 1904 came crashing down.

In that crowd were generations of former students who had attended the school in its long and rich history.

The demolition was necessary as part of a major construction project at the site. A new school building will be built nearby to replace the aging classrooms that are being torn down.

Demolition was the first step in the year-long construction project. The new building is expected to be finished by the fall of 2018.

School leaders tell us a new building will provide countless benefits, including a more secure and safer campus setting, as well as classrooms suitable for a new generation of young minds.
