ALPENA COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Alpena County is welcoming its new undersheriff this week.
On Monday morning, Sheriff Steven Kieliszewski swore in the newly promoted Undersheriff Erik Smith.
Smith is a graduate of Alpena High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice at Lake Superior State University.
He started his career with the Alcona County Sheriff’s Office in 2001 and returned to his hometown in 2007, taking a position with the Alpena County Sheriff’s Office.
Smith has also served as firearms instructor, fire investigations, DNR Safety Program instructor, Dive Team member, Marine Patrol, and Northern Michigan Mutual Aid Emergency Response Team while at the sheriff’s office.
