Ambulance loses tire in Leelanau Co. crash

Towers work to remove this Suttons Bay-Bingham ambulance from the snowy side of the road on Thursday.

LEELANAU COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Suttons Bay-Bingham Fire & Rescue may be down a vehicle after one of its ambulances was involved in an accident Thursday morning.

Around 10:45 a.m. the ambulance was transporting a patient from another crash to Munson Medical Center on M-22, when it was struck by a car that failed to stop at a stop sign while heading east on M-204.

Leelanau County Sheriff's deputies say the patient was transferred to another ambulance to complete the trip to the hospital.

The car hit the ambulance's front right side, dislodging the EMS vehicle's tire.

The ambulance is believed to be totaled.

The deputies say that Suttons Bay-Bingham Fire & Rescue does have another that was already expected to arrive in the near future, but for now, they'll be one vehicle short.
