GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- A northern Michigan veteran organization is receiving tens of thousands of dollars thanks to the annual TC Patriot Game.

During halftime of the Traverse City Central and Traverse City West basketball game on Saturday, students presented the Warrior Sailing program with a check for $16,000.

The money was raised during the annual TC Patriot game that was held last September during the Traverse City West and Traverse City Central football game.

Warrior Sailing uses competitive sailing for veterans to promote camaraderie and encourage healing from physical and mental injuries.

According to organizers, the $16,000 was a record amount since the Patriot Game first began seven years ago.

"We were blessed with perfect weather and a tremendous amount of support for veterans," said TC Patriot Game Chair Scott Herzberg.

Since the beginning, the game has raised $81,000 for a variety of veteran causes.
