April snow extending spring ski season

April snow extending Spring skiing season

CHARLEVOIX COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- One of the upsides to all the snow that's been falling this April is that it makes for some good spring skiing.

A couple of northern Michigan resorts are still open for skiing and snowboarding this weekend.

Right now, Boyne Mountain has 35 runs open and five lifts.

The mountain will be open daily until April 15, then will be open on weekends for as long as it has enough snow.

The latest Boyne Mountain has ever stayed open is the first weekend of May.

“People have been really excited about the late season snow and the conditions," said Erin Ernst, the director of communications for Boyne. "We haven’t seen conditions like this since the mid-90’s in April so we’re excited for it, our guests have been really excited.”

Boyne Mountain has had about 17 inches of snow so far in April, in January it had 18.

Nubs Nob in Harbor Springs is also open this weekend.

Sunday will be its last day for skiing and snowboarding this season.
