Benzie County Zonta Club, Iron Fish team up for 'Hats and Horses' fundraiser

Hundreds gathered at Iron Fish Distillery for the 2nd Annual Hats and Horses event held by the Benzie County Zonta Club.

BENZIE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The biggest horse race of the year may be held in Kentucky but that didn't stop northern Michigan from getting in the spirit.

The Benzie County Zonta Club held a Hats and Horses fundraiser at the Iron Fish Distillery in Thompsonville Saturday.

More than a hundred people showed up to watch Justify win the 144th Kentucky Derby while supporting the Zonta Club.

One adult ticket bought two drink tickets, a pig roast dinner and an entry into a 50/50 raffle for the race.

The event also featured a silent auction for the Zonta Club and a horse race of its own.

"People love to support the community, and they like to be a part of their community, and it's for a good cause. It's also a lot of fun. It is so exciting," said Julie Bretzke, the vice president of the Benzie Area Zonta Club. "Those couple of minutes are so exciting and it's fun to wear fun hats. Just watching the horses gets your blood flowing."

This was the second year that the Zonta Club and Iron Fish Distillery have teamed up for Hats and Horses.
