Bergman donating salary during government shutdown
NORTHERN MICHIGAN (WPBN/WGTU) -- Congressman Jack Bergman announced Thursday he will be donating his salary during the government shutdown.
Bergman said he'll be donating his salary to northern Michigan charities until the government reopens.
"If Congress fails to do its job resulting in a shutdown, then we should forfeit our pay as well," Bergman said "American citizens sent us to Washington to solve problems, not cause them. If we can't do that, we don’t deserve to get paid.”
Bergman is also co-sponsoring a bill that would stop Congress from getting paid during shutdowns.
