MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WPBN/WGTU) -- He's known as a local surfing legend around Marquette and by looking at the photos of his Christmas Day adventures on Lake Superior you will know why.

Daniel Schetter, known as "Surfer Dan", can be found on Lake Superior all year but he turns the most heads when he catches waves in the frigid winter months.

Devon Hains of Devon Hains Photography spent some time on the shore documenting Schetter's latest session, which meant surfing about a four hour stretch!

"Lake Superior is his playground all year. We went out to Presque Isle Park in Marquette, a usual spot for Dan. The temp was about-5 degree but with windchill it was -25 degrees. Which are perfect conditions for a good ice beard. Dan has been hoping to beat the huge ice beard he got last year. So that was his goal for Christmas, grow a big ice beard and he brought me along to take photos of it," wrote Hains.

Hains graduated from Traverse City Central High School, and grew up in Elk Rapids. If you would like to see more of his photography click here.
