Buckley man charged for allegedly waving gun around while drunk

Thomas Hays was charged with operating while intoxicated, fleeing and eluding and carrying a concealed weapon.

GRAND TRAVERSE COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- The Buckley man arrested for allegedly waving a gun around while drunk was arraigned Friday morning.

Thomas Hays, 58, was arrested Tuesday night after it was reported he drunk with a gun on Bartlett Road in Buckley.

Deputies from the Grand Traverse County Sheriff's Office said they followed Hays as he left the scene.

They chased him for a couple miles before he pulled into a random driveway, according to deputies.

Hays got out of the vehicle and deputies reported the smell of alcohol.

A loaded P94 Rutger 40 caliber semi-automatic handgun was found under his seat in the vehicle.

The handgun was registered to a relative of the man and the suspect is reported to not have a permit for the gun.

Long guns were also found in the backseat and no CPL was on record for the man.

Hays was charged Friday with third-degree operating while intoxicated, fourth-degree fleeing and eluding and carrying a concealed weapon.
