Building destroyed after fire in St. Ignace

Multiple crews were called in to fight a fire at a building along West US-2 in St. Ignace on Sunday.

MACKINAC COUNTY, Mich., (WPBN/WGTU) -- Two firefighters were treated at the hospital after a roof collapsed during a structure fire over the weekend.

The fire happened Sunday evening on West US-2.

Crews said the roof collapsed causing a wall to blow out knocking a couple firefighters down.

Two firefighters were sent to the hospital with bumps and bruises.

Multiple agencies including the St. Ignace Fire & Rescue Department, Mackinaw City Fire Department, Straits EMS and multiple law enforcement agencies.

Approximately 25-30 firefighters battled the flames for about four to five hours.

Crews said the weather and wind made fighting the fire more difficult.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
